In recent years, the general public are a lot more aware of the risks of sun damage and the development of skin cancers and there have been many national media campaigns emphasizing the importance of using sun protection and limiting exposure to the sun. There are many people out there who never understood the damaging effects of the sun on the skin and heard this message too late, leading to a poor skin tone and texture and areas of hyperpigmentation and age-spots. Despite knowing this, it is a great shame that a glowing tan is still seen as an attractive feature desired by most and that some people even now still use sun-beds. The most important message that we can give to our clients is the use of a high factor, broad spectrum (UVA and UVB) sun-screen throughout the whole year.
It is quite ironic that the treatment of pigmentation and sun damage is by using light based treatments and photorejuvenation which can treat age spots and help improve skin texture and tone.
